Will Team USA Make it in the World Cup?

June 28, 2014 at 9:38 pm

Team USA is ahead from the mighty Germany and star powered Portugal for about 13 minutes in its World Cup soccer group, but Portugal struck back with seconds to play when Cristiano Ronaldo set up his teammate Silvestre Varela for a header leaving the final score to a 2-2 respectively. This was a tough blow for the team USA because the spot becomes harder for them, but it doesn’t end their World Cup dreams. This will make the team push their limits to get the spot.

Will Team USA Make it in the World Cup?

Most groups have done to matches already and have a clear winners as well as losers in the group of Brazil. But in group G which is composed of Ghana, Portugal, Germany and the United States, there is still a chance of qualifying any of the four teams for the knockout round.

United States plays with the group leader Germany and at the same time third rank Ghana plays Portugal on Thursdays. This could be the highlights in this group. Here’s how it’s going to work. The American will qualify for the knockout level if they beat Germany. The USA team will get three points when they win the match and giving them seven points over all. If it’s going to happen, they will go through the next level but Germany hasn’t lost yet in this World Cup, and team USA will be battling with their full force because both teams haven’t lost a game.

However, if both Germany and United States ties, they will get a point for the draw and will get five points each. Ghana-Portugal match will be of no value even either one of them wins because they will end up less than five points. This could happen since Ghana held the German team into a draw in their last match.

On the other hand, if team USA loses to Germany, it will be a bad season for them but it is not certainly game over, and it depends on how badly they lose as well as how the Ghana-Portugal game will end up. When both Ghana and Portugal will have a draw, then Americans will advance. If Portugal wins just a small margin, still Americans will go to next stage, but if Ghana wins by two or more, it will be over for the Americans and the African team will advance eliminating USA team third time in a row in the World Cup.

Brazil continued its winning and undefeated streak at home earning the top spot in group A. Chile and Selecгo will face each other on Saturday’s game. And Netherlands will face Mexico on Sunday which both teams won over their opponent respectively.

Who Will Win in 2050 in the World Cup Technology?

June 11, 2014 at 8:59 am

Sepp Blatter raises a serious question on how sports will look like, such as Football and other sports in general, during 2050, observing the fast pace tech-focused world. It is very obvious that humans will be better at sports. Considering the technologies in the early 1900s, if the winner of the 2012 Olympic will have a chance to compete in the 1904 race, the result would be very different. 2012 player would nearly win an hour or more compared to those players in those times. And if Jesse Owens took gold during 1936 Olympic marathon and had competed in the 100 meters at London 2012, he will be beaten and still have at least 14 meters left when Bolt crosses the finish line.

Who Will Win in 2050 in the World Cup Technology?

It only proves that sports these days are a science which means technology plays important role in every game. From 3D printed trainers and equipment that is specially designed to data analytics which will monitor athlete’s every move. Rugby clubs have been using this technology since 2009 even though it remains prohibited on football pitches. But look closely at the British Lions next time when they play, you will notice small box beneath their shirts. They are connected to the data system with GPS packs gathering a range of data and evaluating how far and fast they have run in connection to their heart rates and temperatures.

Chief technology officer Guy Lidbetter of Olympic technology provider Atos believe that football will turn into data-driven in the long run. He also added that the potential of the technology will be realized and will come to its heights where there are monitors in boots and shirts that feed all data back to the coaches.

Who Will Win in 2050 in the World Cup Technology?

Chris Kluwe, an ex-NFL player thought and writes about the future of sports and the collaboration of technologies such as data analytics is useful both players and coaches. This will also improve the game in real time where he fantasized that every corner of football ground has a system of camera, giving bird’s eye view of the pitch together with accelerometers and sensors on the helmet of each players.

Brazil has been using plenty of technologies on their football ground such as goal line sensors, vanishing sprays used by referee during free kicks and heat-bonded footballs. Technology is clearly accessible and available to make every player even more superhuman, but this idea will bring great dispute and arguments; and this will be a matter of cultural recognition and acceptance.

High Court Rejected New Jersey’s Bid for Sports Wagering

May 13, 2014 at 8:55 am

In Washington, New Jersey, the bid of Gov. Chris Christie in reviving the state’s sports wagering law which will legalize sports gambling come to an end, and the hope is gone when the Supreme Court rejected its bid.

High Court Rejected New Jersey’s Bid for Sports Wagering

The Supreme Court declined to review a federal appeals court ruling from last year. In its brief written order, it was stated there that betting on spots contests is not permitted because of the existing federal law of 1992 that bars most states from giving license on such wagers. But of course, Nevada is highly exempted in this provision because their sports wagering were grandfathered into the decree. And the court rejected New Jersey’s arguments and opinions that the federal law was unconstitutional.

There was a plebiscite that has been passed in 2011 allowing sports wagering and the lawmakers of the state ratify the legislation that allow casinos in Atlantic City and horse-racing tracks of the states to take sports stakes on many games but with particular exemption including collegiate contests that is being played within the state or encompassing New Jersey schools.

New Jersey’s Gov. Christie pursue to make state’s right justification in his petition to the Supreme Court stating that the sovereignty of its federal law was intruded and impermissibly classified among other states.

New Jersey’s law such as state-sponsored gambling has threatened the honor and integrity of their games especially the four major professional sports league and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). But on the other hand, the Obama administration mediates on the league’s side to defend the constitutionality of sports betting federal injunctions.

High Court Rejected New Jersey’s Bid for Sports Wagering

Both the Obama administration and the leagues signed in court papers about the appeals of New Jersey that it was pitiful and meritless according to the Supreme Court review. In addition, they also stated that New Jersey couldn’t argue and make complains about unfair treatment because the existing law of 1992 gave the state a one-time window to start its betting sport and obtain exemption, but in the contrary they just let it down.

There were no further comments on the side of Supreme Court about its the decision of Gov. Christie’s appeal.

SC Politics: SC Ban on Robo Calls is Tossed Out by the Federal Court

This order was signed by the U.S. District Court Judge Michelle Childs last June 10, and this is part of the ongoing lawsuit filed to Robert Cahaly, a former campaign consultant to the ex-Lt. Gov. Ken Ard, after the arrest was made in 2010 for the automated phone calls or robo-calls that was traced to him.

After the charges were dismissed against Cahaly, he then filed a state lawsuit with claims that there were violations in his First Amendment rights.

There were accusations of Cahaly wherein he targeted six female S.C. House Democratic candidates in the call, stated in the court order. There was one call that asked the listeners if a Democratic candidate should be inviting U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif, in campaigning with her. The listener was then impelled to choose an answer yes or no through the use of the key pads of the telephone.

The court order mentioned that the state attorney general had interpreted the law that political robo-calls is allowed before, so long as they will be delivered through a conducted survey or an answering machine,

The political speech was unfairly singled out by the court ruled state law, agrees with Cahaly that the First Amendment has been violated by the law. This ruling however is only applicable to the political robo-calls and not to the commercial phone calls that are automated, which also have restrictions in the state law.

Cahaly said, “This ruling in favor of free speech isn’t just a win for me. It’s a win for the Constitution and most especially the Bill of Rights.”

5 Rules to Follow To Consider If You Sell Your Business before Retirement

March 3, 2014 at 8:52 pm

It’s not new to business owners to consider selling their businesses whenever they think about retirement. If it’s a first for them, they are mostly unprepared as to what happens in the process of the sale.

5 Rules to Follow To Consider If You Sell Your Business before Retirement

Richard Hayman understands the different difficulties well. He handles the Hayman Systems, a family business based in Washington D.C., a cash register business that operated for more than three decades before he sold it to MICROS Systems, Inc. in year 1999.

5 Rules to Follow To Consider If You Sell Your Business before Retirement
  1. Don’t focus on the past but on the future.
It can be a very powerful emotional experience to sell your business when you think about the years of efforts you’ve spent for the success. It’s best to think about the newfound freedom rather than the loss of your business.
  2. Develop a strategy for transition.
It is best to sell a few key assets and not do everything all at once. Hayman took more than a decade in preparing the sale of his business. He remained as an employee of the MICROS Systems for about two years before the transition was fully done. He also created a transition plan for all of his employees to make sure that everyone understands what’s happening.
  3. Until the deal is done, you stay engaged.
As the owner, you are more knowledgeable about the business than anyone else. It is best for you to lead the negotiation.
  4. You should Know When to Let Go.
You should know when to step back when the time will come. Prepare in advance to make the transition easy for you.
  5. Don’t watch the calendar, focus on the market.
Your decision in selling the company should be dictated by the ebbs and flows as well as the rise and fall of the market and not the date of the calendar.

Hayman said, “Just because you prepare does not mean you have to sell.”

When it’s time, make sure you are doing it not for the wrong reasons but rather the right ones.

A Consumer Group Choice, Poorly Rated the Kids’ Lunchbox Snacks in Health Star Rating Calculator

January 29, 2014 at 9:40 pm

Health Star Rating calculator has been used by Consumer Group Choice in assessing the nutritional value of snack foods of 260 children, and most of the snacks were rated poorly under the system.

A voluntary structure, which is the Health Star Rating system arranged by buyers, health and business groups was structured to permit consumers to see a product being rated from lowest to highest.

Assistant Health Minister, Fiona Nash, contentiously pulled down the system earlier this year according to a website because it is supposed to be available in July for voluntary use. There is one food manufacturer so far has star on its label and it is unclear if suits will be filed by major companies.

A Consumer Group Choice, Poorly Rated the Kids’ Lunchbox Snacks in Health Star Rating Calculator

According to Angela Cartwright, campaign manager of Choice, the analysis of almost all of the products rated two and a half stars and even less; there is only three snack products that rated the maximum five stars.

According to Ms. Cartwright in her statement in ABC that she was surprise knowing that there was a huge difference in the ratings even in very similar products. Furthermore, she made a comment and mention about fruit snack products that has been found with very high concentrated sugar because many of them are made from fruit puree and dried fruit.

Again, Ms. Cartwright observed that some of the products were rated two stars and even lower in the standard rating system used.

Moreover, there were products which are made with fruit juice and actual fruit instead of syrup or jelly, and found out that it was given high rates around four stars and up. So, it was very surprising to know how snack products for kids are rated because of the options that are labeled on the product.

There were still deliberate arguments on whether how the Health Star Rating system can effectively balance its ratings in all snack products especially for the young ones.
